Beginners in New Mexico yoga classes can make mistakes

With the New Year around the corner, people may be making resolutions to get fit and lose weight. New Mexico yoga classes may sound attractive, but if people are just joining, they may become self-conscious about whether they're performing the exercises the right way.

Fear not – it's normal not to take to a new exercise like a duck to water. But for people who are curious, health guru Jenny Sugar of FitSugar offers her advice on six common mistakes of yoga practitioners.

1. Each movement has a different breath pattern to it, so don't forget to be conscious of how your breathing corresponds to how you're moving.

2. Proper breathing will expand the rib cage and not the belly. To keep your abs engaged and protect your lower back, draw your navel toward your spine as you inhale.

3. Don't clench muscles unnecessary for certain movements.

4. Don't push yourself until your muscles hurt.

5. If you're unsure whether you're posing correctly, ask your teacher, but don't break focus by checking out everyone else.

6. Don't wear socks while performing yoga. Bare feet will make you feel more grounded on your mat.

And for the sake of good health – have fun! You're in good company – a survey published in the Yoga Journal found that 15.8 million Americans practiced yoga as of 2008.

New Mexico yoga classes can support those with life struggles

Attending New Mexico yoga classes may be one of the best things an individual can do for their health. The holistic mind-body regimen originated in Asia many centuries ago, but has since garnered popularity and respect among Westerners for its physical, mental and emotional benefits. Millions of Americans count yoga among their other good health habits, like getting plenty of rest and eating a nutritious diet.

The program can also help people overcome life struggles. Yoga instructor Ana Forrest is one of these individuals, according to Tampa Bay Online. She began drinking and smoking at a young age, and endured abuse from her parents that led her to become bulimic and suicidal. Eventually, she dropped out of high school to become a horse trainer.

Over the years, Forrest discovered yoga and found that practicing its breathing exercises, poses and stretches strengthened her both physically and emotionally.

"I began to realize yoga was doing something for me. There's a lot of value to it," she told the news source. "It's about a path of freedom. Where there's emotional or physical blockage, to begin to help people focus their intent and their breath, we learn to start to put the breath where that blockage is, so it begins to change."

Dahn Yoga launches specialized position therapy workshops

This year, Dahn Yoga and Health Centers will be offering specialized position therapy workshops, which focus on a method of self healing that may serve to optimize well-being.

The workshops teach techniques that are very similar to Dahn Yoga exercises and will be offered at various locations across the U.S. to maximize convenience and accessibility to practitioners.

Like the ancient Korean regimen as a whole, these sessions encourage individuals to become more aware of their own bodies. By focusing on the breath, as well as performing soothing postures and stretches, practitioners can fully unlock the meridian channels that carry energy throughout the body.

Allowing the life energy Ki to flow freely throughout the system may enable people to reach their full potential. Because so many chronic illnesses are caused by stress, tension and anxiety, practicing these techniques may prevent the development of serious diseases before they have a chance to take root.

People all over the world have admired the self healing benefits of Dahn Yoga exercises, which have helped increase strength and vitality for countless practitioners.

New Year’s day in New Mexico is celebrated with the Prayer of Peace.

The Peace Dove

The Peace Dove

All of the Dahn Yoga and Body + Brain centers in New Mexico participated in a worldwide event to actively declare the intention to create peace in 2011 by reading founder, Ilchi Lee’s, Prayer of Peace. Special classes were held at each center. Members reflected on the past and looked forward to the future. It was a great way to usher in the New Year with a sincere mind. The Prayer of Peace was read out loud at the end of each session. We gathered as ‘Earth Humans’ with a sincere desire to create peace and freedom in this troubled world.

Here are a few impressions from the people that participated.

“I was so happy to be a part of this global event. I felt the power of so many people around the world saying the prayer on the same day. Surely the consciousness of humanity was raised.”

“The ‘Prayer of Peace’ is timeless and yet so perfect for this time on earth. It made me cry to see the world in such turmoil, but I also felt a great sense of hope that there are those who gather to create a better reality.”

“I am an Earth Citizen first and foremost!”

“What a great way to celebrate a new year. The training and prayer gave a deeper meaning to my New Year’s Resolutions. I want more than to loose a few pounds. I want the earth to heal.”
