Reeves stars in Speed.
At first glance, Speed may seem like any action-thriller involving a runaway bus. However, Dahn Yoga participants looking for a thrill as well as unlikely inspiration can find it in this successful 1994 film starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. This is sure to be a fun film to watch after one has practiced one's Dahn Yoga exercises.
Bullock's character in the movie is especially inspirational, as she shows that any average Annie can become a heroine.
Bullock plays Annie Porter, who starts her day running to catch her usual bus. She is late and the bus driver plays with her a little bit, pretending to speed away before stopping and letting her onto the vehicle. Later on, however, all of the passengers on the bus find out that they are involved in a terrorist scheme, in which the very bus that they are sitting in has been hijacked by an evil ex-cop, who has planted a bomb on the bus. The bus driver, Sam, is shot in the arm and has to be taken to the hospital, while the rest of the passengers are not allowed to leave the bus, which also has to maintain a minimum speed of 50 miles per hour or it will explode.
It sounds like a far-fetched plot, but the movie makers do a great job of convincing us that this is plausible. Keanu Reeves plays a heroic young cop who must simultaneously keep the bus passengers calm, try to figure out how to dismantle the bomb, and uncover the identity and motives behind the evil ex-cop and bomb-planter. It turns out that the bomber has placed a hidden camera so that he can keep an eye on the passengers and on the bus. Using this information, Reeves' character figures out a way to outsmart the terrorist.
